The first-generation Silvia was unveiled at the 1964 Tokyo Motor Show as the "Datsun Coupe 1500" and went on sale the following April 1965. Its beautiful long-nose, short-deck styling was characterized by sharp body lines that made extensive use of straight lines and a shape reminiscent of the cut of a jewel, earning it the nickname "crisp cut". It also had excellent driving performance, and was deployed by the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Traffic Riot Squad when the Daisan Keihin Road opened to traffic on December 18, 1965. As Japan's first highway patrol car, it attracted much attention and was reported in newspapers, magazines, and other media at the time, and it protected the safety of the Daisan Keihin with great deterrence.
